I am often asked the question: What inspired you to start Mon Ami Furry Designs? My answer is simple. Mon ami, Symon!
Symon and I rescued each other on August 15, 2009. Sure, I dealt with his extreme anxiety for a month or so (constant shaking, not wanting to be left alone). Sure, I dealt with trying so hard to reassure him that this was his forever home, and his Mommy wasn’t going anywhere. Sure, I dealt with self-doubt that maybe the love I had to give wouldn’t be enough. But you know what? Since that day, we’ve been inseparable, and any doubt that I had that my little man would love his new life, and me, faded fast.
About six months later, I sat down at my laptop and out of nowhere, I created a logo design for an idea I had in my head. It is truly inspired by Symon, as it says Mon Ami (French for my friend, because he was rescued in Montreal). It has a pup with big ears and happy colors that make me think of him. As I was staring at this logo, I had no idea what I would do with it.
In 2018 (eight years later), in a one-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, I realized what Mon Ami was truly about: celebrating friendship, love and kindness for all. I wanted to create fun designs and styles that would showcase the personality of your best friend, because every furry is unique. I was driven by the idea that boys need awesome outfits, just like girls. I was driven by the idea that humans shouldn’t have to worry about the little man having a potty accident on his shirt. I was driven by the idea that clothing should actually fit the pup wearing it: Why is it when I buy the width I need for my pup, he ends up wearing a crop top, but if I buy the length I need for my pup, he ends up wearing a sack? I have created for over 500 furries, and it turns out – I’m not the only one with these thoughts. Each piece of your outfit is meticulously hand cut from only the highest quality fabrics, each ruffle is hemmed and ruffled before it is attached, and each outfit your pup wears is sewn with great attention to detail. Quality inside and out is important; every seam is fully finished for added durability. Your pup’s outfit is made with love and ready to last for years to come.
